A Cable Modem is a digital modem that uses a coaxial cable connection (Same line as Cable TV, except filtered) for the data. The box that is connected to this data connection is called the Cable Modem. The function of the Cable Modem is to decode the data signal into your PC. This Cable Line is typically filtered and logically separate from the rest of the Cable TV line in your house.
The Cable modem can be connected to the computer via a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet or USB Interface. However, the “ROL Cable Connection Kit” will be inclusive of an Ethernet Cable only. If you wish to use a USB cable, you can purchase it from the open market.
The speed of connection depends on the package you have subscribed for. As a device Cable modem can deliver much higher data rates. The cable modem is capable of delivering up to 38Mbps.However, in application, cable modems can have 4 -10 Mbps steady downstream data flow. Therefore this makes cable modem an ideal device to deliver some of the future Value Added Service ROL intends to provide over this network.
No. The Cable Modem will work only with your computer.

No, other people will not be able to see any data or information you transmit or receive via the Cable Modem. Your connection to the ROL Network is private and is restricted to you only. Our Network is enabled with maximum levels of security, protection and privacy to our customers.
The Cable modem and all other accessories, including the associated software, will be provided as part of the “ROL Connection kit” when you subscribe for ROL service.
You will NOT be able to use an ADSL broadband router in place of the cable modem. This is because your ADSL router uses a technology known as Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) whereas the cable modem uses Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) technology. Therefore they are not compatible with each other’s network elements.
If required, we will provide any additional software necessary when you subscribe for our service.
You are not required to buy a Cable Modem to ROL internet services. The Cable Modem and Cable Connection is included in our nominal setup fee and will be provided with the “ROL Connection Kit”.
If you have a Cable TV subscription plan on the same cable you use ROL internet services then your cable will be split at your premises (one end goes to the Decoder and the other goes to the Cable modem). Therefore both can be used simultaneously.
Our technical support staff will attend your premises to the initial setup for you.
The ROL Technical Support Team will provide you assistance in resolving any technical issues you have with ROL Internet services. Please call 332 0880 or email to support[at]rol.net.mv. ROL technical support does not provide support for problems encountered dues to sharing of packages intended for a single user and problems encountered on your Cable TV channels.
No. The Cable TV channels and Internet access service works on two different frequencies. Therefore they are independent of each other and do not interfere with each other. The network has been designed to support both the services and confirms to DOCSIS standard that is used to provide Internet service over cable.
The number of computers you can connect to a single cable will depend on the ROL Internet package you have subscribed for.
